Sell Diamonds with Confidence at Antiques Estate Buyers USA

Have a diamond ring, loose stones or a piece of diamond jewelry you no longer wear? We evaluate diamonds, engagement rings and fine jewelry and make offers that reflect what the stone is actually worth today, drawing on more than 30 years of buying fine jewelry. You see how we grade it and how we reach our number.

People sell diamonds for many reasons: a divorce, an inherited ring nobody will wear, an upgrade, or simply a piece sitting in a drawer for years. Whatever the reason, the questions are the same. What is it really worth, who will pay a fair price, and how do I sell it safely? This page answers all three.

Selling a diamond should not feel like a mystery. We grade the stone in front of you, explain each of the factors that affect its price, and tell you how the setting and any other stones add to the total. If you have a lab report, we use it and explain what it means.

What Sets a Diamond's Price

Cut: how well the stone is shaped and polished. A well-cut diamond returns more light and looks livelier, and it usually sells for more than a poorly cut stone of the same size.

Color: most white diamonds are graded on a scale from colorless to light yellow or brown. The closer to colorless, the higher the price, all else being equal.

Clarity: nearly every diamond has tiny internal marks called inclusions. Fewer and smaller inclusions raise value; visible ones lower it.

Carat weight: the weight of the stone. Price rises faster than weight, so a single larger diamond is usually worth more than several small ones adding up to the same total.

Beyond these four, shape, fluorescence and the quality of the lab report all play a part. Current demand matters too: certain shapes and sizes sell faster than others.

How to Sell Your Diamonds

Antiques Estate Buyers USA offering diamond buying services in Long Island, NY
  • Schedule a Free Appraisal

Book a home visit, or meet us at our Islip office.

Bring the piece, along with any paperwork you have: lab reports, receipts, original boxes or earlier appraisals. Paperwork is not required, but it can speed things up and support the value.

  • Professional Evaluation

We look at cut, color, clarity and carat weight, check any lab report, and weigh current demand.

For mounted stones, we also look at the setting itself: the metal, its karat or platinum mark, its condition, and whether a maker's name adds value. Older settings from known houses or with fine handwork can be worth more than their metal alone. We explain what we can see with the stone in its setting and when a stone needs to be removed for a closer look.

  • Get an Offer

You receive a clear offer with no obligation to accept.

Our offer reflects what the diamond and its setting can bring in today's market, and we explain how each part adds up. A buyer's offer is lower than a store's retail price, because retail includes markups for the shop's costs. Knowing that difference up front helps you judge any offer fairly, ours or anyone else's.

  • Immediate Payment

    Accept, and we pay you.

Take as long as you need to decide. If you want to think it over or compare, the offer is explained clearly enough that you can.

What Types of Diamonds Do We Buy?

  • Engagement rings: new and older styles, with or without a grading report
  • Loose diamonds: graded and ungraded stones of any shape
  • Diamond jewelry: necklaces, earrings, bracelets and brooches
  • Estate jewelry: older and antique diamond pieces
  • Rough diamonds: uncut stones

We also buy wedding bands, anniversary bands, tennis bracelets, diamond watches and mixed jewelry boxes that hold diamonds alongside gold, silver and costume pieces.

Older cuts, such as old European and old mine cuts found in antique rings, are welcome; they have their own buyers. Chipped or damaged stones still have value, so do not discard them.

Lab reports, explained

A diamond grading report is a document from an independent laboratory that records a stone's measurements, weight, color, clarity and cut grade, along with notes on fluorescence and any treatments. Reports from well-known labs are widely trusted by buyers, and a stone with one can often be priced more precisely. Many reports also list an inscription number that is laser-etched on the edge of the stone, which lets a buyer confirm the stone matches its paperwork.

A report is not an appraisal and does not state a dollar value. An insurance appraisal, on the other hand, usually lists a retail replacement value, which is higher than what any buyer will pay. Knowing which document you have helps you set fair expectations.

Diamonds in inherited jewelry

Inherited rings and brooches often hold more value than families expect, and sometimes less. Older pieces may contain hand-cut stones, platinum settings or designer marks that collectors seek out. They may also contain glass, cubic zirconia or other simulants that look similar to diamonds. We look closely at every stone, so you know what you have before you decide what to keep, divide among family or sell.

Tips for Selling a Diamond Safely

  • Get more than one opinion, and make sure at least one comes from a buyer who explains their grading.
  • Be cautious with mail-in buyers that ask you to ship first and hear an offer later.
  • Ask how the price was calculated, and what part is for the stone versus the metal.
  • Bring your lab report if you have one, and compare its details with what the buyer tells you.

Selling a ring after a divorce or loss

These sales can be emotional. We keep the conversation private and practical, and we never rush you. If you are not ready to sell, an evaluation simply tells you what you have, so you can decide later.
